SMS Desk

Privacy.

SMS Desk keeps everything on your phone. Here is exactly what that means.

Updated 29 October 2026 · Covers the SMS Desk app for Android and this website

No internet permissionThe app can't upload anything.
No accountNothing to sign up for.
No serverNowhere for data to go.
No analyticsNo tracking, crash reports or ads.

What leaves your phone

Nothing, over the internet. Android lets an app reach the internet only if it asks for the INTERNET permission, and SMS Desk doesn't ask for it. The app can't upload your messages, contacts, balances or anything else.

Two things do leave the phone, and only when you choose:

  • SMS you send. They go through your mobile network to the person you send them to, like any SMS.
  • Backup files.SMS Desk writes backups only to a folder you pick. If that folder is synced by a cloud service, that service gets a copy under its own terms. The file holds your messages, including OTPs and bank SMS, so keep it somewhere safe.

What we collect

Nothing. There's no account to sign up for, no server that receives data from the app, no analytics, no crash reporting and no ads.

What the app reads on your phone, and why

  • SMS and MMSTo show, sort and send your messages, and to read balances, card dues and spends from bank alerts.
  • ContactsTo show names instead of numbers.
  • Phone state, on dual-SIM phones onlyTo let you pick which SIM sends a message. Android words this permission as "phone calls". SMS Desk doesn't read your calls.
  • NotificationsTo alert you to new messages and reminders.
  • Alarms and start-upTo deliver reminders on time, including after the phone restarts.

All of this is processed on the phone.

Where your data is kept

Your SMS stay in Android's own message store, as with any SMS app. What SMS Desk adds (categories, rules, stars, blocked senders, balances and reminders) is kept in the app's private storage on the phone. Uninstalling SMS Desk deletes that storage. Your SMS stay in Android's store.
